This one's for you ash.

Well after much nagging from friends I have decided to join the world of blogging.  What a stupid word that is, who in the hell came up with that anyways? They should be shot, in the foot. . . . I'm not one for violence, just suffering.
Today it snowed!  It was somewhat unexpected, they claimed it would be a dusting, but it actually snowed about four inches.  I was ecstatic. Now that I am not employed I have the liberty of sleeping in.  The best thing in the world is peering out the window, groggy and half awake, and witnessing it dumping snow.  The next best thing is rolling over and going back to sleep in a warm and cozy bed, while it's dumping snow.  What is it about a snow storm that is so peaceful?  It makes me feel like I am at home with myself.
So I continued to sleep as long as it snowed, knowing that once it stopped I could go and shovel. My most favorite workout.  I have a sweet old neighbor lady that has four dogs whom she lets play in her front yard when she is out gardening or shoveling.  The dogs barking and frolicking in the snow (dogs love snow) was my alarm clock.  So I rushed out of bed to go and help her shovel her sidewalk, she is on the corner so she has a lot more work than the average person on my block.  I wish I could someday beat her out there and get it done before she was ever able to, that's my father in me. Somehow she always beats me.  The least I can do at that point is help. So after helping her and playing with her dogs I continued over to my side of the street. It was so beautiful outside not too cold and by the time I started on my sidewalk the sun was out with big puffy white clouds and a baby blue sky and everything around me was covered in white as far as you could see.
After applying for a whole bunch of jobs that I know I will never get, I decided that there was enough snow to go Cross Country skiing. My next favorite workout.  I live only four block away from a large golf course which tends to make the best places to ski, short of a groomed trail. My favorite memories as a kid was going skiing in the moonlight at Bill Roberts Golf Course with the family.
Todays skiing adventure was so satisfying, I have been bitching that there hasn't been any snow this winter and damn it, I wanted to ski!  The City park Golf Course it so beautiful (when covered in snow) because it sits just above the city skyline.  As the sunset, all the lights in the high rises became visible against the mountains and it was just breathtaking.  To my surprise I wasn't the only one with this idea today so thankfully there were a whole bunch of trails already broken.  Trekking through the course, a cute red fox ran in front of me and it made me think who needs the mountains when you can have a wonderful skiing experience, wild-life and all, right here in the heart of the city.
